This story is a little difficult to take, especially if you’re a softie
about children as I am. However, before you run away, please remember that all
is not as it seems to be. If it were, I would never have been able to write
these scenes. I have no idea why I wrote this back in 1996-97, but it remains
one of my personal favorites. I like the experimental nature of the prose,
with sections either all narrative or all dialogue. It’s a departure from the
very tight third person point of view that I almost always write. Please
forgive the scientific inaccuracies; I know they are there!
