SURFACING DESIRES Not long after Kira began the opening of the Gratitude Festival, she was sure she saw a familiar figure at the back of the crowd. //Prophets, whats *he* doing here?// was her first, angry, thought. //Today, of all days?// Kira switched her attention back to the Gratitude Festival. Dukat would just have to wait, she decided, still stewing. Shed deal with him later. *** Several hours later, Kira stood in a doorway in the Habitat Ring, staring after Bareil in confusion. Jadzia? He wanted *Jadzia*? What was going on? First Jake telling her that he was in love with her, then Bareil abandoning her for the Trill science officer? Not to mention that Dukat was somewhere on the station... "Aaaaah, Major," a certain smooth voice drawled behind her, "there you are." Kira turned angrily. "Dukat!" she spat. "Just what the hell are you doing here? Dont you know how important this day is for Bajorans? How dare you..." "I know full well what day this is, Major," Dukat interrupted, raising his hand as if to halt the flow of words. "And that is exactly why Im here. As Cardassias representative at the Gratitude Festival, in the interests of improving relations between Cardassia and Bajor." Kira snorted. "If the Cardassian government was interested in improving relations, sending *you* to the Gratitude Festival is a stupid thing to do, even for Cardassians," she said. Dukat laughed. "Thats fairly close to what *I* said," he replied. "But orders are orders, Major. Im sure youre getting used to *that* by now. Am I mistaken," he added, "or was that Vedek Bareil I saw hurrying away? Having problems, Major?" //Only you,// Kira thought, clenching her fists. "No," she said aloud, her voice tinged with annoyance. "Not that its any of your business." She turned and began walking back to the Promenade. She did not intend to be alone with Dukat one minute than necessary. He fall into step beside her. "Theres no reason to be angry with *me,*" he said to her. Kira laughed bitterly. "No reason? How about the Occupation? Is that no reason?" "We werent talking about the Occupation, Major," Dukat began, obviously ready to launch into another spiel on how the Occupation had been good for Bajor, when Kira spotted Odo and Ambassador Troi coming towards them. Troi had one arm looped through Odos arm, looking very pleased with herself, while Odo had what Kira considered a patient expression on his face. "Odo!" Kira said, delighted to be in the company of someone other that Dukat. "Ambassador," she added. "Major," Odo replied. "Dukat." "Major Kira, how lovely to see you," Troi exclaimed. "And Gul Dukat, I didnt expect to see you here." "Ambassador," Dukat replied, inclining his head. "Its a pleasure to see you again." Troi smiled, then moaned slightly, raising one hand to her head. "Ambassador?" three concerned voices asked in unison. "Im fine," she replied, shaking her head. Smiling, she took a firmer hold on Odos arm. "Good-bye Major, Gul. Well see you at Captain Siskos party." "Certainly," Kira replied. Watching Odo and Troi continued down the corridor, she suddenly felt dizzy. The corridor spun, and she couldnt focus properly. "Major?" Dukat said softly. "Are you all right?" Kira glanced at him, where he stood rubbing his head distractedly, glanced away, then looked back at the deep blue eyes. "Im fine," she replied, unconsciously echoing Trois words as everything stopped spinning. "You?" Dukat smiled. "Just a headache, Major. Where were we?" he asked as she stepped closer to him. "I dont think it matters," Kira said softly. Raising her hands, she locked her fingers behind his neck and pulled him down so she could kiss him. Dukat put his arms around her waist, then lifted her off the ground. "Mmmmm!" Kira said in surprise, but not breaking off the kiss. Dukat pulled away from her, then looked into her eyes with a wicked smile. "Maybe we should leave the corridor....?" he suggested. Returning the smile, Kira let go and slipped out of his arms to tap her comm-badge. *** <Sisko to Kira.> Annoyed, Kira put one hand on the floor beside Dukats head and pushed herself into a semi-sitting position. Glancing around her quarters for her uniform jacket, her gaze fell on Dukats armour, half-under the bed, their shoes, in the various corners where theyd been kicked, and other assorted pieces of clothing. Spying the piece she wanted, she tried to grab it but she couldnt reach. "Allow me," Dukat murmured. Snaring the end of the sleeve, he dragged the jacket over to where they lay or rather, where he lay and Kira half-sat on top of him. <Major?> Siskos voice said, slightly worried. Kira grabbed the comm-badge. "Yes, sir?" <Major, are you alright?> "Yes sir. I was just, uh, sleeping." Dukat stifled a laugh. <Major, I need all the senior staff to come to the Infirmary.> "Is it an emergency? Im really tired." She yawned loudly. <Im afraid it is, Major. Doctor Bashir has just diagnosed Ambassador Troi with Zanthi-fever, and I want all the senior staff to be treated for it.> "Sir, I feel fine," Kira said. "Cant I come down after Ive slept? I can hardly keep my eyes open." She yawned again. <Well...> Siskos voice hesitated. <Come to the Infirmary as soon as you wake up. Dont stop by anywhere, for anything, until youve been checked out.> "Of course. Kira out." She tossed the uniform jacket to one side, and looked down at Dukat, who grinned up at her. "Major, I didnt realise you were so tired," he began. "Maybe I should leave you to get some rest." "Dont you dare," she growled softly. She leaned in until they were nose-to-nose. "Now," she said, even quieter than before. "Where were we?" "Well, I was just about to..." Dukat took the hand that she was propping herself up with, and pulled it away so she fell on him. Then, still holding her wrist, he rolled over so that he was pinning her. Kira giggled and squirmed. "Thats not fair, Dukat!" "Why not?" "It just isnt," she replied. Placing her free hand on his chest, she tried unsuccessfully to roll them both backwards so that she could regain her previous position. Dukat took her wrist and pinned it to the floor like her other one, before kissing her. Kira was the one to break the kiss this time, giggling. "Major?" "Your scales...tickle...when they rub against me," she grinned. "What," Dukat released her wrists, "like this?" With both hands free, he began to tickle her. Kira shrieked with laughter, trying to bat his hands away as she rolled from side to side in an attempt to stop the tickling. "Dukat...stop it..." she gasped between howls of laughter. "*Stop....*" She curled up, and Dukat rose to his knees to reach over her so he could tickle her on both sides. Quick as a flash, Kira uncurled and pushed him sideways. As he fell, Dukat turned slightly so he landed on his back instead of his arm, and Kira pushed his legs apart to kneel between them. Dukat raised his head to see what she was doing, but fell back with a sudden exhalation of breath when she took the base of his erect member with one small hand and began to stroke it with her thumb. Kira wriggled down so that she was lying between his legs, and placed her other hand on top of the first so that her hands covered all but the very end. Bringing it to her mouth, she began to nibble on it. Dukat moaned with pleasure. Opening her mouth wide, Kira slowly slid her top hand down over her other one as she took his penis in her mouth. It didnt all fit, and she opened her eyes wide half in amusement, half in annoyance, and settled for tracing patterns on the scales of what wouldnt go in her mouth. "Neryyyys..." he gasped out. Her mouth was abruptly filled with Cardassian cum that spilled out of her mouth onto him and the floor. Kira drew her mouth off his penis and crawled forward on top of him. Swallowing the remaining cum in her mouth, she dropped her head to kiss him. Taking her wrists, he rolled over and pinned her again, but this time she went along uncomplaining. Dukat began to kiss the side of her neck, and she sighed, turning her head slightly. She tried to pull her wrists out of his hands, but he tightened his grip and wouldnt let her go. "Uh, uh, uh, Nerys," he murmured. "Stay still. My turn." Kira sighed happily, relaxing. Dukat released her wrists, running his hands down the curves of her body down to her thighs. Slipping one hand between her thighs, he gently parted the lips and stroked, with feather-lightness, the wet opening. "Ahhh!" she gasped, reaching up and gripping his shoulders. "Like that, hmmm, Nerys?" he whispered. "Oh yes," she groaned. "Oh Dukat...ohhhh..." "You want me inside you, dont you?" he hissed in her ear. "Yes," she whimpered. "Oh please...now..." Then he was inside her, all of him. Kira dug her nails sharply into his shoulders. "Dukat!" she called out, before losing coherent thought. *** "The time is 0600." Kira groaned, rolling over into someones side. //What...?// She blinked her eyes fuzzily, and the someone came slowly into focus well-built, scales....//Oh, Dukat.// Now that the question of the someone was resolved, Kira pulled the blanket up in an effort to get back to sleep, but the smooth material just woke her up more. //Blanket?// she thought. The surface she was lying on was softer than the floor though not by much. She opened one eye suspiciously. //Bed? When did we make it to the bed?// "Ah, Nerys, youre awake," Dukat said cheerfully. Kira quickly shut her eye again. "No, Im not," she muttered. "Tired?" he teased. "Shuup." "Didnt Sisko want you to report to the Infirmary when you woke up?" "Shut *up,* Dukat. Let me get back to sleep." Kira rolled over, then kicked the blankets off, pulled them back up, kicked them off again and sighed. "I dont want to get up," she complained. Dukat gently tucked a strand of hair behind her ear...then pushed her out of bed onto the floor. "Dukaaaat!" Dukat got up off the bed and began gathering his clothes from around the room. Kira crawled back onto the bed to watch. "What are you doing?" she asked. Dukat paused while trying to get his trousers on. "Well, Nerys, you *are* the stations first officer. And I believe your commanding officer has things for you to do?" "Not as fun as what Id *like* to do," she muttered, eyeing him. He came over to the bed and knelt in front of her. Taking one of her hands in his, he began kissing it. "And I," he said between kisses. "Have to get back to my ship preferably before theres enough people around to notice that I came from your quarters." "Does that matter?" she asked. Dukat grinned at her. "No, Im sure that Sisko would just *love* to hear that I spent the night in your quarters." Kira sighed. "I get the point. Do you *have* to leave?" she added wistfully. "Believe me, Nerys, I dont want to go either," he sighed, then leant forward to brush her lips with his own. "But I will be back as soon as I can...provided your feelings dont change, of course." "Change?" Kira murmured, then took his shoulders to pull him into a deeper kiss. "Of course they wont." Dukat pulled back. "Wonderful. Then Ill be back. Good-bye, Nerys." "You seem very anxious to leave me." She pouted. "Im not...really...but I *do* have to leave..." He hopped around crazily, attempting to get his other leg in his trousers. "Do you know what happened to my armour?" "I had it beamed to Garaks shop." "Nerys!" She giggled. "OK. I think its under the bed. Speaking of bed, how bout you come back to it?" Scooping up the armour, he kissed the top of her head. "Later. I promise." Kira settled back on the pillow and watched his retreating back. She sighed, then threw the pillow after him. Settling back down, she dragged the blanket up to get some more sleep. *** <Sisko to Kira!> Kira woke with a start, groping around for her uniform jacket. "Computer, time!" "The time is 0757." "Oh, Prophets...." She noticed her jacket on the floor on the other side of the room. Disentangling herself from the blanket, she went to get it, wondering why it was over there, among other things. //Whats that smell? Its familiar...// <Major?!> //Dukat!! Oh SHIT!!!// Kira stopped dead, jacket dangling from her hand. //What did I *do*? What was I thinking of?// <MAJOR!!> "Yes!?" <Major, is something wrong? The computer says youre in your quarters, Doctor Bashir says you havent been in the Infirmary to be treated for Zanthi-fever, and your shift started an hour ago." Kira took a deep breath. There had to be *some* explanation for why shed been crazy enough to sleep with Dukat, not that *he* minded, she was sure. And snapping at Sisko was not the way to discreetly find out what that reason was. In fact, snapping at Sisko would only put him in a worse mood for when he found out why she was really late. "Im fine. I just overslept, Im sorry. Ill be in Ops as soon as Ive been by the Infirmary." <You said you were tired last night, are you feeling well?> Sisko sounded worried. "I feel fine, just a bit tired." //And if Im sick, its in my reasoning. Dukat, oh Prophets... Brilliant, Nerys, just brilliant.// "Ill be there soon. Kira out." She dropped the jacket and raced to the shower. //Oh Prophets, what did I do?// she kept thinking. Somewhere between the shower and putting on a fresh uniform, that changed to: //When I see him again, hes dead. He mustve known something was wrong. Id never do that normally.// She walked into the Infirmary, looking around for Bashir. "Doctor?" "Major!" Bashir stepped around the corner. "I dont know what good it is for you to be here now, the effects of the Zanthi-fever have worn off by now." He grimaced, then grinned. "For which I am sure Sisko and Keiko are thankful!" Kira ignored that last comment, though she was sure Bashir was just dying to tell her the implications of it. "Doctor, what exactly *is* Zanthi-fever? And why does Captain Sisko think I had it?" //Does it have something to do with why I...?// "Zanthi-fever is something mature Betazoids get. It loosens the hold they have on their emotions, so those emotions are broadcast rather widely. Sisko thinks you had it, because a lot of people on the station caught it from Mrs Troi. Actually, they didnt actually catch the fever itself, they just lost all inhibitions in acting on underlying attractions." "Huh?" "Everyone who was in Mrs Trois vicinity when she had an attack began to come onto other people rather strongly." Kira sighed with relief. She hadnt been herself then. But what about... "How does it affect Cardassians?" Bashir stared at her, startled. "Why do you want to know that?" "I just need to know. *Please,* Doctor." "It affects them the same way. They feel an uncontrollable urge to act on their attraction for another person, but it wears off about an hour before other species." //So *thats* why he was so eager to leave this morning. He was back in his right mind, or whatever right mind he has.// Then another part of Bashirs earlier explanation sunk in. "Underlying attraction?" "Thats right. Zanthi-fever doesnt create an attraction. Sufferers will only act on an attraction they already had." "An attraction they already had? An obvious attraction?" //Please say yes, please say yes. Please say Im not attracted to him.// "No. Its often a deeply-suppressed attraction, and not even the person in whom that attraction surfaces was aware of it. But the attraction has to have existed for the fever to remove inhibitions to act on it." //Oh no. Nononononono. I am *not* attracted to Dukat.// Kira gulped slightly. "Major? Is something wrong?" "No Doctor," Kira replied faintly. "Nothings wrong. Thank-you." She turned and walked out onto the Promenade, trying to convince herself that Bashir had somehow gotten the explanation wrong. ~FINIS~ |
