Remembering Harry

The sound of screeching metal was all he remembered before he awoke in this stark room of white. He tried to turn his head but immediately there was a hand on him, preventing the movement. "Stay still, sir. It will be better that way."
The woman's soft voice did nothing to jog his memory and he drifted off into the darkness and the pain ceased to exist. Until the next time he opened his eyes and grey ones met his own. "Here he is, James. I would recognize Lily's eyes and that hair anywhere." The eyes crinkled and the face smiled. "It's about time we found you, Harry."
"Harry who?" He croaked out in a voice that sounded as if it hadn't been used in a long time. Darkness fell again on him and he was sucked down without his answer.
The next time he woke, he felt more than one pair of eyes on him. His own open and blink trying to focus, spectacles cover his eyes and soft hands appeared in his field of vision. Startling green ones meet his. “Hello, dear.”
He felt as if he should know this voice and those eyes since he is sure that they remind him of someone. “Hello. Do I know you?”
A sob hitched the soft-spoken woman and her auburn hair shook as she cried softly. Suddenly there is another man in his vision and he felt again that he should know this person as well. Hazel eyes searched his and he met them without fear or any knowledge.
The man's voice sounded like his own and he wondered if he had upset them by not knowing who they are. “I'm sorry but I don't recall your name.”
“That's alright, son. It will come in time. There is however, someone else who wants to see you.”
He blinked and looked around the room. Another man entered. He looked tired and worn as if life has not been good to him. His clothes are threadbare but mended well and he felt an unexpected warmth for this person. The man turned and faced him; his eyes were warm and an unnatural color almost as if he's hiding something beneath their amber façades.
The new man smiled and he is reminded of chocolate and stories but his name is lost in his sea of confusion. He stuck his hand out and waited for the man to take it. The smile faltered slightly and when the large hand enclosed his, nothing.
He held the other man's hand for a moment trying to remember but again the warm fingers slipped away from him just as his memories had.
The door opened again and the grey eye man entered. His smile is infectious and he smiled as the man flitted around the room. He watched as the other man hugged and pinched the auburn haired woman earning a swipe for his affections. He punched the hazel eyed man and this time is rewarded a headlock and a noggie. When he approached the world-weary one he hesitated and looked back at the bed. At him.
The amber-eyed man frowned and then pulled the grey-eyed man in his arms. They hold each other as if they will never let go and then both turn to look at the young man on the bed once more.
“Harry, do you remember any of us?” The grey-eyed man gestured to the people one by one.
“James.” The hazel-eyed man nodded. “Prongs.”
“Lily.” The auburn haired woman gave him a watery smile and he found himself smiling back. The grey-eyed man gave her a grin. “Vixen.” She glared at him.
He nodded to the worn man. “This is Remus, Moony.”
He puffed up and pointed to himself. “I am Sirius, Padfoot.”
Harry nodded. “It's nice to meet you all and I am sorry I don't remember any of you let alone my own name. You say that it is Harry?”
They nodded at him and he shrugged his shoulders. Lily hung her head and cried again while James wrapped his arms around her trying to comfort her. She looked up at him and added another name to Harry's memory. “Has anyone told Severus?”
Sirius and James both sneered. “No. Snivellus is not welcome here.”
“James. You know he could help…”
Just then the door opened and long black robes and a hooked nose preceded the man in question into the room. His black eyes snapped around the room and he sneered at the group in general. He walked towards to Lily and she nodded to him as he opened his arms. She rushed for him and cried into his robes as he rubbed her back and shushed her.
“Severus, would you please try?” She blinked her eyes at him and his face curled into a grin he reserved for her and one other person.
Severus nodded and let go of her. He sneered at Sirius as he walked by. The words of the mediwizard ran through his mind. Small things could trigger his memory. Start with simple things like names and such then move on to relationships.
Severus sat on the end of the bed and looked Harry in the eyes. He reached out and took the young man's hand. In the background he heard some shuffling feet and looked around to see Sirius seething. Remus was holding him back. “Padfoot. Knock it off. We have talked about this.”
“It's not right, Moony. Snivellus' hands all over little Prongs.”
Suddenly Harry felt as if this was an old argument. “Stop it. It's not right to call him that name. Even I can tell it is derogatory.” He pointed to Lily. “If she thinks he can help back off or I want you out of this room. Now!”
Severus chuckled. “I see he has retained your temper, Lily.”
Harry looked at the group and scowled at them all. “Look I really don't understand what is going on but I am tired now so if it is not to much trouble I would like to rest. So if you don't mind.” He stifled a yawn as he waved towards the door and the others took the hint.
Lily approached the bed. “Harry, is it alright if Severus stays with you? The med… doctors don‘t want you completely alone for the time being.”
Sirius and James frowned at this but the man in question nodded. “I suppose. Thank you for coming to see me I hope to remember you all, soon.”
Lily smiled weakly. “It will come in time, darling,” she said softly. She patted his leg through the covers and took James' hand. “Let's leave him be for now and all get some rest it's been a trying few days.”
The three men and the redheaded lady left and he was alone with the dark-haired stranger. They eyed each other and he felt a connection with the other man a twinge in his heart. Somehow or another he knewthis man. He smiled. Dark eyes widened and he stared at the man on the bed.
The dark man smirked and moved to settle himself in a chair beside the bed. “So, Mr. Potter…”
“That's my name. Harry Potter. It's… it's so ordinary. How did the rest of you get such interesting names Sirius, Remus…” His eyes roamed over Severus lingering on his face and then at his hands. “Severus?”
Severus grimaced. “Just lucky, I suppose.” He shifted in his seat and leaned forward. “Do you remember what happened?
“No, not really. Just sounds basically.”
“Would you like me to tell you?”
“Can you? Without leaving anything out, without trying to shield me from what ever horrors have befallen me?” Harry smirked as if he had known the others would try and shelter him but this man wouldn't.
Severus chuckled and nodded. “It is fairly simple. You were coming home from school. You are teacher at an exclusive boarding school. There was an accident. A lorry had stalled out on the tracks and there wasn't enough time to stop the Express. It ploughed through the truck and derailed. You were thrown from the train because you had been up moving down the train to check on some students.”
Severus stopped to let that sink in. The crash of the Hogwarts Express had been blared from the WWN in his shoppe and he had panicked. He had ran from the store only to be stopped by several other student's parents, telling him that the Muggles had gotten to the crash sight first and the Minister was working on trying to get all the wizards and witches back to St. Mungo's.
The students that had been seen to and released had flooded back into Hogsmeade and began spreading the tales of seeing Harry Potter go flying from the train and down an embankment.
Severus shook his head and brought himself out of the memory from a few days ago. Harry was staring at him intently.
“Was anyone else injured badly?” Harry asked, softly.
“Some but most were treated and released. It took us two days to find you.”
Harry stared at him. “Two days? I was outside for that long?”
“No, the emergency team that arrived on the scene found you right away because of the students. It took us two days to find out which hospital took you.”
Harry nodded. “I am glad that I was found.”
“As am I, Harry.”
Harry stared intensely at the dark haired man. “The other people, that were in here earlier. I know I was introduced to them but who are they?”
Severus took a deep breath. “Do you remember anything at all about them?”
“I felt a connection with the scruffy looking gent and with you. Felt a little something for all of them actually but he strongest with you and…” He closed his eyes trying to remember. “Ah… Remus. But as for really remembering anything, no not at all. Just feelings.”
Severus nodded. “Well, impression as such are a start. I have one more thing for you if you would like it back. You don't have to take it if you don't want. I know it may very well be quite overwhelming for you.”
“If you think it will help me then I am willing to try anything.”
Severus smirked. “Of course you are.” He held out his hand to Harry and opened the long fingers to reveal a bright silver band. It was wide and had runic symbols engraved around the entire circumference. It seemed to him that it hummed slightly as it lay in Severus' hand.
“May I?” Severus asked softly.
“Of course.” Harry automatically stuck out his left hand.
Severus raised an eyebrow, took a deep breath and slid the band on the third finger from Harry's thumb. His own band warmed on his finger and became visible once again.
Harry gasped and his head was flung against the back of the bed pillows. His eyes fluttered shut and he was pulled into a memory. Severus watched anxiously and held onto Harry's hand.
Music filled his ears and he was being held in someone's arms. They danced around a large room, twirling past others that smiled at the couple. His eyes held intense black ones. The eyes closed and the face moved closer and kissed him. He felt warmth along his lips and he opened under their onslaught. His arms wrapped about the other man and returned the affection. The kiss broke off and the man leaned back and smiled. He felt warmth infuse his body and the images settled themselves back in his mind.
Harry gasped and opened his eyes once more. Severus was looking at him, curiously. “I… I'm gay and married… to you.”
Severus nodded and raised his hand and showed Harry the ring. “Did you remember anything else?”
“I think I saw the day we got married. We… were dancing and you kissed me and smiled. There was music playing and… Minuet. We were waltzing to the Minuet.”
Severus nodded. “I won't push you to come home but it may help you remember more.” He leaned forward and brushed back the fringe from Harry's forehead. “I'll even set up a second room all of your own. You don't have to sleep in our bed.”
Harry leaned into the caress. “Thank you, Severus.”
“Would you like to go home tonight?”
Harry met the dark eyes and nodded. Severus stood. “Well, then shall I go see to your paperwork? It won't take long.”
Severus turned to leave the room. “Severus? You never did tell me who those other people were.” Severus hung his head and then turned back to the man on the bed.
“James and Lily are your parents. Remus and Sirius are your godfathers.”
“Oh.”
Severus nodded. “Would you rather go home with one of them?” He asked softly.
“You would call them back up here if I did?”
Once again, Severus nodded. “If that is what you wished, Harry.”
Harry thought about it for a moment. “Is it loud where we live?”
Severus stared at him. “No, I wouldn't think so. Why?”
“Something just tells me if I went home with any of the others there would be even more people coming out of the woodworks.”
Severus shrugged his shoulders. “The decision is yours, Harry. I will not force you to come with me or push you to go home to your parents.”
“I would like to go home with you, then.”
“Very well.” He smiled at Harry. “I'll send the nurse into help you dress.”
“Thank you, Severus.”
Severus had been wrong about it being quiet at their home. The next morning, Sirius had shown up with James in tow and both were demanding the reasons Harry had left the hospital. Severus had left him alone to deal with the two men.
Every once in a while though, Severus would come by and ask if Harry needed anything. He was semi-polite to James and Sirius, never really provoking them unless they were extremely rude. It happened most often especially whenever Severus touched Harry. Finally after trying to argue his case of being in perfectly fine health despite the lack of memory, Harry had enough.
“He's my husband and I belong with him.”
Sirius and James stared at him. “Is that what he told you?” The grey-eyed man asked.
“No. I remembered it.”
“Are you remembering anything else?” James asked.
Harry shook his head. “Not yet. Severus told me you and Lily were my parents and Sirius and Remus were my godparents but nothing else. Remus is the only other one that I kinda have a connection with and I don't understand why.”
“Then how did you remember that you were married to the git?” Sirius demanded.
Harry glared at him. “Look, you have invaded my home and done nothing but accuse Severus of damn near everything under the moon.” Harry held his hand up and Sirius shook his head. “Why is there such tension there?”
Harry snapped. “What?”
Sirius sighed. “You realize that Severus is old enough to be your father and in fact went to school with us.”
“Your point is?” Harry sneered at the other man. “Severus helped me remember something and hasn't once asked for anything in return except to bring me home. Not that it's any of your business but we don't even share beds.”
Sirius paled and James swallowed.
Harry continued. “I want to, gods how I want to, but he wants me to remember us first. He wants me to actually want him and not just lay down because he helped me.”
James nodded but Sirius sneered. “He's up to something, I don't know what but he is.”
Harry looked to the man who was his father. “And you? I watched you in the hospital room. You haven't said much; you've only let him to most of the talking.” He pointed at Sirius.
James swallowed. “Harry, Severus and I never got on well. He was a friend to your mum while we are in school and remains so to this day. I wasn't happy when the two of you bonded. I still have my reservations about the whole thing.”
Harry nodded. “I suppose as a parent you are entitled to those feelings. Is it because he's a man; would you be easier off if it were a woman?”
James shook his head. “I have no problem with that; my best friends are together in a relationship.” He paused and thought for a moment. “Harry, I don't know how to say this without coming off any worse. But I must say this for my own self. I feel as if Severus has taken advantage of you because you are so very young.”
Harry nodded. “I am of legal age and have been for quite some time. I appreciate your concerns because you are my father even if I don't know you but they are unfounded. I feel safe with him.”
James nodded and a knock on the door interrupted them. Severus came through the room and patted Harry's shoulder and pushed him back down on the couch. “Don't move, I'll get it I am expecting something.”
He opened the door to find Lily there with two new people Harry didn't recognize. Severus pulled Lily into a hug and then the blond man next to bushy headed woman.
They came into the sitting room and the brown haired woman ran over to Harry and flung her arms around him. He gasped as her scent enveloped him and his head was flung back. She shrieked and let go of him. Severus knelt by his side as the memory took over Harry.
The scent of lilac flowers and something he couldn't quite place filled his nose. Harry looked up at the girl then around the room. Books littered the table where they sat. There was a blond young man with them and it appeared she was lecturing them about something. She held out a stick and waved it and flowers sprang up over the table.
Harry opened his eyes. “Hermione?”
The girl nodded and tears formed in her eyes. She made to speak but Harry interrupted. “I wasn't for sure because the memory that I just saw was rather strange.”
“Strange, how?” Severus asked.
The blond man came around and stared at Harry. Harry eyed him and the dark haired man grinned. “I know you as well; you were in the memory, but I can not recall your name.”
“Potter.” The blond drawled and crossed his arms over his chest. Harry gawked at him. He narrowed his eyes at the other man.
“Malfoy. You are Hermione‘s husband.”
The others in the room gasped. Draco nodded. Harry stuck out his hand and the blond man pulled him into an embrace. “Glad you made it, Harry.”
Severus cleared his throat and Harry turned to the dark haired man. “Yes?”
“Are you going to tell us why the memory was strange?”
“Oh, yes. She made flowers appear from nowhere.”
Severus nodded and stood. He went to the mantle of the fireplace and opened as carved wooden box and took out a stick similar to the one Harry had seen in his memory. He held it out to Harry handle first.
Harry hesitated and then reached up to grip the wood and gasped again as a convulsion shook his body.
An old man grinning at him, his teeth were rotten and missing a few in the line. A musty smell to the shop and James and Lily standing next to him and he tried stick… no wand… wand after wand trying to find the most suitable one. Magic, he could do magic and was a wizard. Holly and a dragon's heartstring core for his wand. The tip glowed bright yellow and he closed his eyes against the light.
Harry woke lying on the couch with Hermione and Lily bent over him. He gasped and scooted back from them as they stood. “Merlin! Don't do that to a person.” He clutched his shirt over his heart.
Lily stared at him with her eyebrow raised. “You remember something else.”
Harry nodded. “Yes, mum. I remember lots more. Where's Severus? I want him to be here.”
Hermione bit her lip. “Harry, he had to leave. Sirius and Severus got into an argument after you collapsed. James took them outside so as not to disturb you.” She trailed off and grimaced. “Sirius attacked him while James had his back turned and the … police came.”
Harry sneered. “Dammit. You don't have to skirt around the magic Hermione; I remembered it. What I don't remember is why they argue and fight like this? What the hell happened?”
Lily sat down on the couch as Harry sat up. “Well, Harry, Severus and Sirius haven't gotten along since they met on the train to Hogwarts. In fact James and Sirius attacked him when they found him on the train.”
She signed and frowned. “Severus was not the easiest person to get along with. His father was very abusive and his mother, despite the abuse, sheltered him. He was frightened of going away to school and in his defence; he had learned some rather nasty hexes that once he got the courage to fight back he did so viciously.”
She continued on in a slightly more disgusted tone of voice. “Many people over looked the supposed school boy pranks and Severus paid for them time and again. Since our days at school there has been a quiet acceptance of the two of them mutually existing to irritate the hell out of each other.”
She smiled at Harry. “Until you came along. Severus and I would meet for tea in Hogsmeade several times a week just because Sirius was always here with James and I didn't want to hear the arguing. James had moved on somewhat but whenever he is around Sirius they seem to revert to the posturing of fifteen-year-old boys.”
Lily waved her hand. “Severus and I, we would talk of potions and life and his schooling after we left secondary. He was thrilled for me when I found out I was pregnant with you.” She shook her head and finished up her tale.
“Anyway, Severus went on to get his Masters in Potions and opened an apothecary in Hogsmeade and the first time he saw you after you have grown some well it wasn't pretty because you were with Sirius and James. He was rather rude to James and Sirius while you all were getting the supplies needed for you to go to Hogwarts. It caused even more tension between them and escalated once he realized that as long as he got to see you and I and that James didn‘t mind, it made Sirius even angrier.”
Harry nodded as he listened. “So what happened? I mean, it seems as if Severus was more along the lines of a family friend if only to you. How did we end up together? He watched me grow up for Merlin‘s sake.”
Lily hung her head. “I'm afraid that is somewhat of a touchy subject. During your last year at Hogwarts you went through a rebellious stage. Armed with the a map your father and his friends made you used to wreck havoc and one day ended up in Severus' shop after having it out with your da over your behaviour.”
She eyed him. “I told your father that that map was no good and well Severus played up your mischief and the two of you got back at James and Sirius good.”
Lily glared at him and then smiled. “Scared the life from me, you two did. Severus came here one day carrying your nearly lifeless body and there was blood all over the place.” She shivered.
“He laid you on the couch and began screaming at James and Sirius because you had been traipsing around the Forbidden Forest and had ended up in his shop, staggering in through a trap door and collapsed in his stockroom.” Snickering interrupted her story.
Draco had entered the room, and was standing next Hermione in the armchair, shaking with laughter. Harry stared at him and their laughter bubbled out loudly.
“Well, don't just stop.” Harry demanded. “What happened next?”
Lily chuckled. “Now that I think about it, it was rather funny. Sirius panicked and James just stared at you. Severus had this smirk on his face and I noticed it and was about to say something when he bent down and gave you the Muggle kiss of life and you jumped up from the couch and settled yourself in his lap, babbling about how Severus was your prince and he had rescued you from the dragon and got to keep you.”
She dissolved into laughter and tears rolled down her cheeks. Lily took a deep breath and then continued. “Sirius nearly had a heart attack. He was shouting about how Severus had you under his control and your father cast many charms on you and made certain there were no curses.”
She reached over and patted his leg. “You were so angry after all that you went over to Severus and kissed him. Really snogged him a good one and it shut your father and Sirius right up. So at first I think it was just something to get back at your father but ended up being a rather good thing for the both of you.”
The front door opened and James entered, dirty and looking slightly embarrassed. Harry stood and ran over to him. “Well, where are they?”
“The Aurors kept them for disturbing the peace and possible Muggle exposure to magic.” James replied and then looked up worried.
Harry was furious. “And you left them there?!?” He grabbed a cloak from the stand by the door. He pointed at his father. “I can't believe you just left them there and didn't even bother to bail them out.”
“Sirius deserved it.” James looked at his son. “Severus retaliated in kind and there was nothing else I could do.”
“And yet you return here to my husband's home without them. Get out. I don't want to see you again until you can accept my choices. Stay out of my life.” He slammed the door on his way out then opened it again. He looked back into the room. “Draco, would you go with me? I have no idea where I am supposed to go.” The blond nodded and held his hand out to Hermione.
Harry looked at Lily. “The time for pranks is over. Mum, I'm sorry. You are welcome but until what I asked for occurs I don't want to see either of them again.” Draco held out Hermione's cloak and then waited for Harry to lead the way out.
Lily looked at James as the door closed after the young people. “I told you this was a bad idea but no you were going to fix him and get him away from Severus' evil influence. James, I am really disappointed in you.” She got her cloak. “I'm going home and will firecall Remus about Sirius. I suggest you come with me because I really don't think you want him to come back and find you.”
She glared at her husband. “You are going to have to help mend this James, I won't lose my best friend and my son in the same day. Let‘s go.”
James followed her out and heard the door click after them. The wards on the house came up and brush against him as if pushing him away already. He would give Harry a few days to cool off and come back to apologize. Lily was right; he didn't want to lose his son either, not after the scare they had just had. He shook his head and followed his wife back to their home.
The trio appeared in the alley across the street from the Auror offices in London. Draco led the way into the street and stopped before an enclosed bus bench. He sat down on the seat and waited as a paper began to unfold from a map holder.
The instructions to enter the offices were quietly read out to Harry and they all placed their wands back in the map container. A whooshing sound filled the booth and the bench tipped backwards into the rear of the enclosed entrance.
Harry opened his eyes to see wizards in all manner of robes walking and talking around a large room. Draco stood and went to a large desk.
“Severus Snape, please.” He informed the witch behind the desk.
“All of you? Sign here please.” She floated a clipboard to him and Draco pressed his first two fingers to the sheet of parchment; his signature appeared under the digits. The others followed suite and Harry paid the fine for Severus to be released. The witch stood. She sent an orange ball of light down the hall and a large wizard in black robes came lumbering back in it's wake.
He led the group down a dank passage and Harry was filled with anger once more at his father and Sirius and even Severus for giving into the other man's idiocy.
But the sight of Severus sitting dejectedly on a bench, eye black and thin lip busted, made him just angry at the grey eyed man. Sirius boasted no marks but his hair was singed.
“Come Severus, we are going home.”
Severus looked up and smiled at Harry. Sirius stood and came forward. “Oi Harry, what about me?”
Harry turned to face his godfather. “Padfoot, find your own damn way home. Moony can come get you if you've the bollocks to call him. I don‘t want to see you unless you are ready to apologise to me and my husband. Let‘s go Severus.”
Sirius gawked at him. “You've remembered then?”
Some but not all and the ones I have I don't like. I'm happy, Sirius. Get it through your thick skull. This has been going on for longer than I have been alive and it's stupid.” Harry held out his hand to Severus and motioned him to come forward.
Severus stood and when he approached the door of the holding cell, it automatically opened for him. He exited and smirked at Sirius. “Have fun, Snuffles.”
Harry glared at his husband. “Severus, please.” The dark eyed man nodded and took Harry's hand.
They apparated home and found the place empty and Harry was glad. He told Severus of what he had remembered and what had occurred when James had returned without the dark haired man.
Severus smirked at him. “My prince.”
Harry grinned and leaned forward to study the dark eyed man. “Might I?” Severus nodded.
Harry leaned even closer and pressed his lips to the other man and closed his eyes. Severus groaned and surrendered to the young man's attentions. The green eyed man pulled away slowly and smiled at Severus.
“Let's make new memories, Severus.”
Severus nodded and lead Harry to their once shared room and closed the door softly behind them.
The End
