Coming Home
By Morgan
12:00 p.m.
Lionel Luthor stalked into the private interrogation room of the Smallville
Police Department. His lawyer and Dominic were already seated across from the
Kent’s and their son. Lionel pulled out the chair next to Dominic and sat down,
looking at the Kent’s for a moment.
"I won’t draw this out. I’ve already had the paper work drawn up and all you
have to do is sign." Lionel began.
Jonathan Kent interrupted him. "We’re not signing anything. Your son is a
child molester and a pedophile for what he did to Clark and he’s going to jail."
"It would be in your best interest and that of your son to listen to me Kent.
My son did quite a bit of research on your son before he became…otherwise
amused with him. What he turned up were very few answers and dozens of
questions. Now you have two choices today Kent, you can sign these papers or I
will release your sons name to the press as the one pressing charges. And if
you think the information Lex dug up was bad you wait until the press get a hold
of him. They’ll tare him and his questionable past apart. I’m not being unfair
in my offer. Five million dollars to drop the charges and sign a press waver.
There is also a minor stipulation of young Clark here never having contact with
my son again, but that shouldn’t be a problem for you." Lionel leaned back
waiting. The Kent’s lawyer looked completely out of his depth. That was good.
"Lex would never agree to that! He wants to see me, I know he does." Clark
yelled, pushing his chair back and standing.
"I can assure you that after having him arrested and spending two nights in a
jail cell Mr. Kent, his feelings for you have changed." Lionel said cruelly.
"We’ll sign it." Jonathan Kent said, looking at the table.
"Jonathan!"
"Dad!"
"We don’t have a choice. Clark can’t be put in the spot light like that. We
want him to have a normal life and it’s not like everyone in Smallville doesn’t
already know Clark’s the one pressing charges. You want people in other towns
looking at him like they do too? At least here people have enough respect for
our family not to spread it around or outright say anything! And it’s not like
we couldn’t use the money." Jonathan said, looking imploringly at Martha. She
had to understand, Clark’s secret was at risk too, but he couldn’t say that in
front of Luthor.
Martha did understand, even if she didn’t like it. "Do what you think is best,
Jonathan." She said quietly.
Clark looked at both his parents and sat back down. They had done this, all of
it. If they had just left it alone he would be in Lex’s arms right now. He
closed his eyes and a tear slipped down his cheek.
"Where do we sign?" Jonathan asked, uncapping a pen.
Lionel Luthor smiled and nodded to his lawyer. The man removed a stack of
papers from his briefcase and began to sort them.
4:00 p.m.
"Statutory Rape Charges Against Lex Luthor Dropped!" The headline blared on the
front page of the Daily Planet.
"How could you let this happen, Lex?" Lionel calmly put the paper down on the
coffee table in front of him.
"It’s over now, leave it alone." Lex took another drink from his fourth vodka
tonic in the last two hours.
"I will not leave it alone. This is completely unacceptable Lex. There is no
excuse-"
Lex cut him off. "I thought he loved me!" He yelled. "He said he loved me."
he murmured more to himself than Lionel.
Lionel heard him. "Lex," Lionel began gently. This was his chance, he knew,
to make sure Lex was his. To jade Lex to his emotions. The boy had always been
too emotional. "I think you see now where your emotions get you. Brought up on
statutory rape charges because you were careless enough to let the boys parents
catch you fucking their only son. And where is this boy? Nowhere to be seen.
He disappeared the second his name was threatened to be released."
"It wasn’t his fault. His parents…" Lex trailed off, getting up to get another
drink.
Lionel followed him, took the glass from Lex’s shaking hand and fixed his son
another drink. "He ran out on you. The Kent’s settled with five million
dollars and the stipulation that you were never to be in contact with him
again. Even after he’s legal Lex. He has effectively taken you for five
million dollars and made sure you could never come near him again." Lionel felt
satisfaction as he watched Lex flinch away from his words. Lex was breaking
down now, soon his broken heart would turn to anger, and if Lionel was careful
he could manipulate it directly at the Kent boy and win his son back. Lex had
always been a difficult child and later a difficult teen, but through it all
Lionel had always been the one constant. Since Lex had met the Kent boy
however, he had been drifting further and further out of Lionel’s reach, going
so far as to refuse to come back to Metropolis. It was time to bring his heir
home.
"He’s not like that. He’s wouldn’t do that." Lex finished off the last of his
latest vodka tonic.
"But he did Lex, and you know as well as I do that money was desperately needed
by the family. Maybe he did it to help his family, maybe he was scared and
thought that was his only out, maybe he had nothing to do with the settlement.
Any way you look at it Son, he left you." Lionel gently drove that last bit
home, watching his inebriated son take it in.
Lex’s shoulders slumped. Clark had left him. Maybe for money, maybe for an
easy way out. Either Lex would have given him had he only asked.
"I think it’s time you come back to Metropolis Lex. I could use a right hand
man and Smallville is below you now." Lionel placed a hand on his sons shoulder
and squeezed, an almost fatherly gesture.
Lex closed his eyes and swallowed. When he opened his eyes they were harder,
aged. He had loved Clark Kent and Clark had betrayed him. If someone as good
at heart as Clark had betrayed him, what hope did he have for trusting anyone
else in the world? "You’re right."
Lionel smiled, his son was coming home. He clapped Lex on the back, turned and
walked out of the study.
The End.
