Clark stood at the loft doors,
staring out at the setting sun. The same spot he’s been standing in since his
visit with Sarah at the hospital.
He was tired. More then tired,
he was totally and wholly exhausted.
He would have gone to bed, but
after the events of the last week, Clark was a little weary of falling asleep.
He knew that Sarah was safe, and her uncle gone, but the dreams he had had,
still haunted him.
Especially that one.
The one dream, that no matter
how hard he tried to wish it away, every time he closed his eyes, Clark could
see Lex holding the sword. Could only watch as it came down on his arm, and
shattered everything.
The look of betrayal in Lex’s
eyes when the sword broke against Clark’s inhuman flesh.
It
turns out you’ve been lying to me since the first day I laid eyes on you.
The sound of footsteps on the
loft stairs startled Clark out of his thoughts. Turning, he was slightly
surprised to see Lex walking up the stairs.
“Afternoon Clark.”
“Hi.”
Feeling slightly unsure, Clark
moved away from the window, and sat on the battered, old sofa by the wall. Lex
followed, and sat at the other end.
“Clark. Is there something
wrong?”
“Everything’s fine,” Clark
lied.
I was your friend.
“I don’t think everything is
fine. You were acting strangely all week, and when I stopped by the other day,
your Mom said you were asleep.” Clark glanced away. “It was two o’clock in
the afternoon.”
Looking down at his hands, Clark
didn’t see Lex move. A slim, hand landed on his, the paleness contrasting
sharply against the dark tan of his own.
Looking up he met Lex’s
concerned eyes.
“Are you ok? You can tell
me.”
I would have protected your secret. I would have protected you.
“I had a really strange week.
Had some really strange dreams.”
“Dreams?”
“Yeah.” Clark chuckled. “I
met a girl in my dreams. Well. In her dreams.”
“I don’t follow.”
Clark told Lex about Sarah, the
girl trapped in her dreams by her greedy uncle.
“Is that why you were asleep
in the middle of the day?”
"Yeah. I was caught in a
dream. I didn’t even realize it.”
“Woah.”
“Yeah.”
“Was I in your dream?” Lex
nudged Clark with an elbow, teasing.
But I couldn’t be trusted because I’m a Luthor.
Slipping his hand out from under
Lex’s, and made his way back to the loft window.
Yeah. Lex had been in his dream.
Their friendship had shattered into a hundred tiny metal shards. Eyes closed,
Clark watched Lex walk away, out of the room and out of his life.
I'm going to dedicate myself to ensuring the whole world knows who Clark
Kent really is. Life as you know it is over.
A hand on his shoulder startled
Clark out of his daze. Lex’s silver blue eyes were full of concern. The anger
and betrayal from the dream was gone.
“I lost you.” Clark
whispered.
“Lost?
What…” The rest of the sentence what cut off when Clark wrapped his arms
around Lex’s slender form. Pulling Lex as close to his own body as possible,
Clark buried his face in the soft curve of Lex’s neck.
“You walked out of my life.”
Clark sobbed. He couldn’t hold it in anymore. The shock of losing Lex because
of his lies was too much.
He couldn’t lose Lex.
“You hated me.”
“Clark.” Lex returned the
embrace. “I could never hate you. Destiny, remember?”
Leaning back a little, Clark
gazed into Lex’s eyes. “You did though. You hated me, because of the
lies.”
“Clark. I know you have
secrets that you don’t want to tell me. It’s ok.” Lex’s smile was soft.
“It’s not ok.”
“Clark. I can…”
“I’m an alien.”
Silence filled the loft. Neither
moved. Watching Lex’s eyes, Clark could see dozens of emotions passing through
those intense blue orbs. Shock, disbelief, anger, betrayal, hope, joy.
“Wow.” Lex whispered. “An
alien?”
“Yeah.”
“Cool.”
Clark grinned, teeth pearly
white.
“Why did you decide to tell
me?”
One strong hand came up, gently
cupping a pale cheek. “Because you are too important to me, to lose.”
Before Lex could speak, his lips
were captured by Clark's.
Startled, Lex pulled back,
staring up at Clark’s open, honest face. There were no masks. No lies. Just
pure truth.
“I love you, Lex.”
“Ww...What? H..h…how?”
“I though the dream was real.
I lost you, and I broke. I’m not going to let that happen for real. I can’t
loose you.” He pulled Lex closer, their bodies pressed tightly together from
thigh to chest. “I won’t lose you!”
The second kiss was fierce. A
passionate battle to prove to Lex how much he meant to Clark.
They moved together, stumbling
and landing on the couch. Clark pressed down, covering Lex’s body with his
own. Lips flew over each other, tongues meeting wetly, as they explored each
other.
Soon it became too much, and Lex
had to pull back, gulping in hung gasps of air.
“Thank you for telling me the
truth.” Lex brushed a lock of hair out of Clark’s bright green eyes. “I
love you too.”
The kiss this time was gentle
and tender. There was no need to rush. The truth was out, and they loved each
other.
Maneuvering them so they lay on
their sides, Clark pulled Lex into his arms, cradling the smaller man to his
chest.
They lay like that unmoving,
gazing into each others eyes. Outside the sun was setting, and the full moon
could be seen shinning in the sky.
Love shone at Clark from within Lex’s eyes, and he knew this was not a dream.
